POSITION OVERVIEW:

Chiquita is seeking a candidate highly adaptable to changes in the business need, flexible to working schedules and eager to learn and perform different tasks at our facility in Oxnard, California. This position has a broad spectrum of responsibilities, such as: yard gate keeper (ensuring equipment leaves the yard with the appropriate conditions and is received accordingly), ensure on-line information on the equipment and fruit dispatch, preparation of equipment dispatched to customers, and monitoring of reefer containers in the yard. Ideal candidate must be organized, have a high degree of attention to detail, and can work well with truck drivers and facility visitors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The candidate will be requested to do either Gate or Yard responsibilities

Gate:

  • Provide a secure entrance to the facility
  • Manage the flow of truck through facilities gate by providing them clear directions
  • Ensure Chiquita’s intermodal equipment leaving the yard is in the appropriate condition to go over the road and is received in the yard in good condition
  • Complete necessary forms deemed appropriate by management, such as but not limited to: ELR (Equipment Lease Receipt), report of events (i.e. damages to equipment and property, theft, presence of unauthorized persons), drayage control sheet
  • Provide to the warehouse delivery dates, status of orders and back orders
  • Keep the equipment inventory updated and accurate in the system as well as the ship confirmation in the fruit inventory system
  • Coordinate with maintenance the survey of equipment received with damages
  • Assist in physical inventory of equipment
  • Assist in order and cleanliness of the facilities
  • Provide solid customer service to coworkers, supervisors, customers and suppliers via telephone, and email.
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

Yard:

  • Receive the containers with fruit coming from the vessel - mainly: plug the containers to the electrical yard plugs, ensure the reefer unit is funtioning and at the right temperature according to the content, report any reefer malfunction
  • Prepare the equipment to send to the vessel - mainly: ensure the right content of the containers sent to the vessel, connect the export reefer containers to the gensets and ensure the refrigerating unit of the containers is set correctly and functioning, report any reefer malfunction
  • Prepare the equipment for over the road-mainly: mounting of genset, connecting of reefer unit to the genset and ensure the refrigerating unit of the containers is set correctly and functioning
  • Receive the empty equipment coming back from the customers - mainly: dismounting of genset, rolling of reefer cable, revision of container to ensure it is totally empty, remove the cardboard at the wall of the reefer unit and any waste in the container.
  • Perform regular temperature monitoring to our refrigerated containers.
  • Complete necessary forms deemed appropriate by management
  • Provide assistance, when needed, on LTR process (Low Temperature Ripening)
  • Provide assistance to the gate in the flow of truck through the facilities
  • Assist in physical inventory of equipment
  • Assist in order and cleanliness of the facilities
  • Report any damage observed to the property and equipment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in similar positions/related industry
  • High School Diploma/GED

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Clerical experience preferred, however not required.Strong work ethic, goal driven, self-motivated and team work player

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, LICENSES:

  • The candidate must be flexible to rotate shifts

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Must have basic computer skill knowledge.

  • Microsoft Word and Excel knowledge is a plus.
